How the Hive House Came to Be

It all started when Rachel, our founder, had a vision of creating a space where photographers, like herself, could capture magic. But it wasn't just about her – she wanted to provide a homey haven for all the incredible photographers in her community. And so, she set out on a mission to turn that dream into a reality.

The first step was sharing the dream. Her closest friends saw her passion and were the absolute support behind it. You know who you are. We hope you have friends like them helping you bring your dreams to life because they were the hidden stars of the show.
Rachel had the dream, but they were the people to make it happen. Jenessa, Chris, and Bri supported every step of the process from painting to building to transporting furniture. They were the true MVPs when the studio was first birthed.

Fast forward to April 2021, we took the leap to re-root in our charming Stillwater location on the third floor of the Isaac Staples Sawmill. Fun fact: A large chesterfield couch can fit in the back of a minivan! And you'd be amazed at how much furniture can squeeze into a Kia Soul. It was like one big, exciting game of Tetris. We closed the St Paul location and we pushed into the dream to be the best photography studio to our Minnesota and Wisconsin community.
Here's the best part – our studio is constantly evolving. We love seeking out new choices, swapping and switching furniture. Couches, chairs, accent tables – you name it, we'll keep refreshing it. We regularly reach out to our renters to see what needs to be changed and we roll with the times. Adjusting as requests come in.
